Steering Committee

The first step in the strategic process was the establishment of a Steering Committee.  The Steering Committee is particularly critical to the process since they will act as proxies for – and liaisons to – diverse segments of the community in order to communicate various aspects of the process, elicit feedback, and help identify people and resources to assist with ongoing implementation.

Throughout the strategic planning process, the Steering Committee helped oversee and guide the effort.  A list of Steering Committee members is provided on this Project Website.

The responsibilities of the Steering Committee are:

  1. Put San Marcos ahead of personal/business interests;
  2. Be a consensus builder in San Marcos;
  3. Keep the “big picture” in focus;
  4. Make decisions about the City’s strategic planning process;
  5. Be an active proponent of the study’s development and
    implementation process;
  6. Share knowledge of San Marcos’ strengths and weaknesses
    with Market Street;
  7. Attend meetings over the course of the approximately seven
    month process;
  8. Actively participate in meetings;
  9. Review draft reports and offer feedback; and
  10. Commit to the successful, timely implementation of the
    Strategy’s recommendations.

Throughout the effort, Market Street consulted with the Steering Committee to keep the process on track and to verify identified key issues.  The project included regular Steering Committee meetings sequenced around the presentation of project deliverables, with Market Street and key staff members from the City and EDSM facilitating the meetings.
